A Day of Unity, Community & Culture!

From the 816 Day Team: As we embrace the vibrant spirit of our community, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming celebration of 816Day on Friday August 16th at the Power & Light District! This annual event honors the unique identity and rich cultural heritage of our beloved city, bringing together residents, businesses, and visitors alike in a day of festivities, camaraderie, and civic pride.

Marking the occasion of our area code, 816Day serves as a symbol of unity, resilience, and progress. It is a time to reflect on our shared experiences, celebrate our diversity, and embrace the collective achievements that make our city a beacon of creativity and innovation.

This year's celebration promises to be the most memorable yet, with a lineup of exciting events and activities for all ages. From live music performances by local artists to delicious food from our renowned culinary scene, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. We have also partnered with Gift KC, Art Garden KC, and KC Night Market to provide a diverse Vendor Market that will last throughout the day. You will also find numerous visual artists throughout the district as well as live paintings.

Additionally, 816Day provides an opportunity to highlight the incredible work being done by local organizations and businesses that contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of our community. Through partnerships and collaborations, we continue to build a stronger, more inclusive city where everyone can thrive. You will also be able to enjoy a number of $8.16 specials throughout the city at numerous restaurants and bars that will be announced soon.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to join us on August 16th as we come together to honor our past, celebrate our present, and envision an even brighter future for our city. Let's make this 816Day a day to remember!

History: 816Day is Kansas City's official celebration of all things great in Kansas City! What started as a simple idea in 2015 has now become one of KC's largest anticipated annual events. 816Day grew from a small labor of love, by creator Brian "Bizzy" Benton, to a city-wide celebration. KC continues to “show up and show out” with thousands attending 816Day the past few years. The love has grown from a 1,200 sq ft venue to a ½ mile block party full of local vendors and entertainment in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District. Now, 7 years after the official proclamation, the celebration continues in the mecca of KC’s entertainment spaces, the Power and Light District.

The Mission: 816Day benefits the community by allowing businesses an opportunity to give back to the citizens of Kansas City while generating traffic from new patrons. 816Day provides a platform where creatives and small business owners from the 816-area code can showcase their talent. Our goal is to create a diverse platform for all people from the 816-area code regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, background or sexual orientation.
